Drum Talk - A Tribute to the Drums

On Saturday 26th July, 2008 at the La Joya Auditorium, Eastern Main Road, St. Joseph, Amadi Productions held its fourth concert "Drum Talk - A Tribute to the Drums".  The drum was used in all the presentations by participants, thus showing the versatility of the drum from historic times to the present.  The first segment of the show was dedicated to our nation for we felt a need to uplift the nation. One cannot pay tribute to the drums without paying tribute to Africa, so the second segment was 'Hello Africa' while 'the beat goes on' was the third and final segment.  Included in the printed programme are notes on the Drums and Dance for edification and reading pleasure.

Soulful Vibes

Amadi Productions Director, Rhona Mohon, identified five young ladies who were invited to participate in its fifth concert 'Soulful Vibes'.  They are Janine Charles-Farray, Adafih Padmore, Leah Lewis, Marielle-Cooper-Leach and Germaine Wilson.  Rhona advised the ladies that they each had twenty minutes to sing their choices of songs from their souls to touch the souls of their audience.  The show, which was held at the Daaga Auditorium, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus on Saturday 4th April, 2009, was such a success that it had to be repeated on Sunday 17th May, 2009 at the C.L.R. Pause For Awhile

This concert was designed to take our audience minds away from all the hustle and bustle, the tension and all other anxieties that seem to be so engrossed in our lives today.  We hoped that souls will be detoxified, rejuvenated and nourished with the beauty of the offerings at the show.  It was also Amadi's desire to bring a heightened awareness and appreciation of our beautiful environment, our loved-ones, our friends and people in general so that we can live our lives more consciously, exuding a more loving and peaceful demeanour and, of course, remembering to give thanks and praise to the Super Power that is God.

A host of outstanding popular artistes appeared on stage to showcase their talents.  They included Edward Cumberbatch, Janine Charles-Farray, Leah Lewis, Marielle Cooper-Leach, Shakeela, Denise Charles, Elena Rawlins, Rae-Ann and Ruanne Cabralis, Colin Joel, Peter Biddeau, Fabien Fanfair as well as Kareem Brown and Friends Steelband.  Earl Carnavon and Friends (Marva Newton, Albert Bushe and Terrance Sealey) supplied musical accompaniment to the performers.

That evening of Saturday 10th April, 2010 from 8.00 p.m. sharp, the Daaga Auditorium, UWI, St. Augustine was engulfed with a variety of sweet music and voices.  From the feedback received from those in attendance, we know that our objective to create an ambience to rejuvenate, lift awareness of our environment and generally please our audience had been achieved.

“Rays of Light”!

This production was designed to shed light on all the dark areas that abound, so that we can see clearly, raise our awareness or consciousness, free up and live our best lives.

To achieve this objective, our cast (Janine Charles-Farray, Leah Lewis, Marielle Cooper-Leach, Elena Rawlins, Jacqueline Johnson and her twin daughters Rianna and Anika, Adafih Padmore, Ruanne Cabralis, Rae-Ann Cabralis, little 6-year-old Mia Soon, Wynda Chandler, Garfield Washington, Colin Joel,Peter Biddeau, Kareem Brown and Avis Bruce on steelpan rendered a collection of inspirational and reflective musical selections, served in four segments, to turn on that inner light within each of us.

The segments were: The Light Within, Turn On Your Heartlight, Lighten Up and Rise and Shine.

Earl Carnavon and Friends (Marva Newton, Junior Watkins, Terrance Sealey) supplied musical accompaniment to the performers.

Iya Africa

 … and while we observe this year 2011 as ‘The International Year For The People of African Descent’ as declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations, the following thoughts return to mind:

v           We must know ourselves;

v           We must respect ourselves;

v           We must love ourselves;

v           And we must know, respect

      and love  our Creator.

Within this framework, Amadi Productions builds “Ìyá Africa” (Ìyá means mother in the Yoruba language).

This concert is set in four segments.

1.      We pay homage to the motherland Africa

2. We pay tribute to Miriam Makeba (Mama Africa).  Selections from her repertoire are performed

3.   We recognize the need for respect to and for our mothers, sisters and women in general, and finally

4.      We celebrate ourselves and our freedom.

As usual, Earl Carnavon and Friends supplied musical accompaniment for the singers (Janine Charles-Farray, Elena Rawlins, Adafih Padmore, Ruanne Cabralis, Shakeela and Peter Biddeau).  Other performers were Kareem Brown and Avis Bruce on steelpans, Oba and Knocker of the Network Riddum Band on African Drums and dancer Rae-Ann Cabralis, poets Denise Charles and Muhammad Muwakil.
My Gift To You

Amadi Productions invited the audience to take ‘time out’ that evening to receive and appreciate the gifts presented by family members, friends and persons who wished to share their musical talents.

This production featured eight gifted performers (profiles included in the programme) who intended to delight and touch souls with their specially selected and prepared presentations.  Musical accompaniment was provided by Earl Carnavon and friends, Marva Newton, Terrance Sealey and Bernard Jackie. Also performing at 'My Gift To You' was Clive Telemaque on steelpan. We were happy to have Natalee Legore, talk show host of Radio I95.5FM, on board to take us through the programme.

An apology was made for the non-appearance of Elena Rawlins who was scheduled to perform but had to withdraw from the cast in order to honour a long-standing contractual commitment.  We are grateful to Leah Lewis who, at short notice, agreed to fill that space.
